November 11, 2009 Learn Photoshop Comments

Adobe has put powerful image editing into the hands of hobby photographers with Adobe Photoshop Elements. Once only within the reach of professional photographers and designers, feature-rich image editing is now affordable and easy to use with Adobe Photoshop Elements.

Some professionals are even using Adobe Photoshop Elements instead of Adobe’s flagship software, Adobe Photoshop. And there’s good reason.

If you want to master Photoshop Elements, check out the step-by-step tutorials in Learn Elements Now.

But if you still need to be convinced to use Elements, here are the top 12 reasons why Adobe Photoshop elements rocks:

1. Elements is easy to use. With an intuitive interface and plenty of shortcuts, Elements is within the grasp of your elementary school-age child. And yet…

2. Elements is closer than ever to Adobe Photoshop CS4 in its features. Each new upgrade of Elements brings its feature set closer and closer to that of Adobe Photoshop.

3. It’s easy to organize and find your pictures. The tagging and text search features means you can easily find pictures in your catalog.

4. Quick edit mode. A few clicks is all it takes to carry out the most common editing tasks – such as removing red eye or whitening teeth.

5. Guided edit mode. As the name implies, in this mode, you’ll be guided through a series of steps to turn your photo from good to great. These include cropping the photo, adjusting lighting and exposure, correcting color and more.

6. Full edit mode. Work with layers, move photo elements, add text – do more in this more advanced mode, which gives you access to all the features of Elements.

7. Special effects. Use filters, layers, photo effects and other tools to transform an image with a few clicks. And if you don’t like it, it only takes one click to revert to the original image.

8. Scene cleaner. Remove unwanted elements from a picture by simply drawing a line over it (available only in Elements 7 and higher).

9. Photo projects. Have fun creating physical objects with your photos, such as photo books and calendars. Elements gives you the tools to create your own lay outs or use ready-made templates.

10. Create slideshow videos. Elements lets you create a slideshow of your pictures, which you can then export to video format, complete with video effects, transitions and other effects (available only in Elements 7 and higher).

11. Easy sharing. Let others enjoy your photos, whether through online albums, burning to a CD or DVd, or via FTP.

12. Print your photos. You can make individual prints, contact sheets or picture packages.

Adobe Photoshop Elements helps you enjoy and share your photos. But you’ll only get the most of it if you know how to use it.

How To Market And Sell Your Digital Photographs:

November 9, 2009 Digital Photography Tips, Make Money Comments
"Not Again Chicken Little"

"Not Again Chicken Little"

Today I would like to share a quick tip, on one of the ways, I market and sell my digital photographs. It seems like digital photography has opened the door for anyone who has a desire to learn how to take high quality photographs. Learning photography is much easier than it has been in the past. New technology, especially in digital cameras and image editing software, has enabled anyone, with a strong desire to be a photographic artist, to achieve outstanding results. With this in mind we are seeing a multitude of people wanting to sell their best images, without any idea how to get started.

Marketing or selling anything requires a lot of work, and in most instances a substantial investment. That is where Red Bubble comes into play. I’ve recently found this fantastic website and started utilizing their service. Red Bubble is a great place to network with other photographers and artists. You can upload and sell your images on Red Bubble at no charge. Red Bubble gets a lot of traffic and this traffic could mean money in your pocket. But even more importantly you’ll get feedback from other members, exposure to some fantastic art work and a ton of positive exposure.

A word of caution, be sure you only submit your best work. Bed Bubble only accept hi quality, hi rez files, preferably around 50 or 60 meg files are prefered. So don’t shoot yourself in the foot and upload just any old shot. Make sure it’s your best work because other members will be viewing and commenting on your submissions. You don’t want to be embarrased, so be selective.

This is just one of the many resources available for making money money selling your digital photos, but is definitely a great place to start. Remember there no out of pocket expense, and free is a very good price.

In addition to Red Bubble I’ve also found Turn Your Photos Into Cash a very good tool forselling your digital photos online. This is an excellent course and will also make your efforts much easier.

Oh, by the way, Red Bubble also provideds you with a wide selection of free sales tools to help you promote and market your images to the public. Here is an example of one of the sales widgets I am currently using to promote my Red Bubble site submissions.

WHAT IS THE BEST FOCAL LENGTH LENS FOR BIRD PHOTOGRAPHY?

November 5, 2009 Digital Photography Tips Comments
WHAT IS THE BEST FOCAL LENGTH LENS FOR BIRD PHOTOGRAPHY?
While 300mm, 400mm, and even short zoom lenses can be useful at times for bird photography, my recommendation to those seriously interested in making quality photographs of birds is to purchase a lens with a focal length of at least 500mm.
For photographing birds in flight, however, handheld 400mm f/5.6 lenses perform superbly. And in places where the birds are extraordinarily tame, a 400mm lens may suffice as a general purpose bird lens.
Before you run out and buy a 600 f/4 lens, rent or borrow one and see if you can manage it in the field. Remember, you may be walking miles on occasion. Manual focus 800mm lenses can be purchased for well less than either the 500mm or 600 autofocus lenses, and provide a reasonable option for serious bird photographers. Their minimum focusing distances are in the 30-45 foot range. Extension tubes need to be added and removed constantly when working with birds at close range. The 600mm autofocus lenses feature minimum focusing distances of less than 20 feet, even when used with a 1.4X teleconverter at 840mm effective focal length. If you are interested in checking out all of your available lens options I would recommend you begin your search at B&H Photo. Now lets get down to viewing some of my favorite images from some very good bird photographers.
